Site design manager - design details
The settings you configure here work in conjunction with the template file tags to control how your pages are formatted and displayed.
The Standard and Mobile options are only displayed if your system is configured to allow the viewing of ACM pages on mobile devices. Because pages are displayed differently on mobile devices than on regular desk-top systems, the pages require special formatting when they are being viewed on a mobile device.
Standard: Click this option to configure the design settings that control how this page will appear when viewed on a standard computer screens.
Mobile: Click this option to configure the settings that will control how the page is displayed when viewed on individual mobile devices. Mobile pages by default use the generic basic mobile view template that is included with the ACM system. You can copy and customize this template for each brand of mobile device. Add lines to this grid by clicking Add, then search for mobile devices and assign your customized templates to each device. The Save and Apply to Children link allows you to apply the same mobile template to all child pages of the page.
Note that you can add a single device or a folder full of devices to the grid and assign a single template to either the device or all devices in a folder. You can also select an existing folder or device and click Remove to remove them from the Design details page.
Click Save and Apply to Children if you want to apply the same template to all child pages of the page you are currently editing. This will use all of the same mobile and standard templates that you have assigned here.
Use Parent Page's Template: Check this checkbox if you want this page to use the same page design template as its parent page. If you want this page to use a different page design template, uncheck the checkbox and select the alternate template from the Template drop-down.
Template: Use this field to select a template for this page that is different from its parent page's template. Uncheck the Use Parent Page's Template checkbox. This will allow you to select a different template for the current page.
From the Template drop-down, select one of the Templates to apply to this page. If no templates are displayed in the drop-down, you will need to edit your design package and create templates. See the ACTIVE Content Manager Design Guide for additional information.
Only click Save and Apply to Children if you want all of the child pages of this page to use this same template. If you want the child pages of this page to use a different template, you can skip this step.
Child Template: Only complete this field if you want to apply different templates to the child pages of this page.
From the Child Template drop-down, select a template to apply to all existing child pages. Click Apply to Children. A message is displayed indicating that the selected template has been applied to all of the existing child pages. Click OK (new child pages will not automatically use this template: you will have to reapply the template to all children).
When you select and apply a child template, the system automatically unchecks the children pages' Use Parent Page's Template field and sets the template for the children to the one selected here. Note that the template is only applied to existing child pages. New pages you create will not have this template assigned to them automatically.
Use Parent's Variable Value: If there is an element of your site design that changes from one page or section to the next, you can use a special Variable within your HTML code so that the system can substitute different values depending on the page the template is being applied to.
For example: If you have an image displayed at the top of each page but the image is different depending on the page being viewed, you can define the img src code using $VARIABLE$ in your design template and then define the replacement value for the variable on each page, in the Site Design Manager.
e.g. <img src=”images/$VARIABLE$/sidebar.gif” alt=”$VARIABLE$” />
If the above is the code in your page design template, you can use the Variable Value field in this section to specify the replacement value. Whatever you type in this field will replace the $VARIABLE$ when the page is rendered. Conversely, if you want this page to use the same variable value as its parent page, simply check the Use Parent's Variable Value checkbox.
Additional Variables: Use this section to specify values for variables from your template. (Variables must be defined in the site design template.) Enter the variable in the $NAME$ column and either specify the value or select the Use Parent Value checkbox.
Include in Section Menu: Check this checkbox if you want this page to appear in the Section Menu (the left or right sidebar, depending on your site's design).
Clicking the Save and Apply to Children link will do the following:
If the parent page’s “Include in Section Menu” check box is checked, all children’s “Include in Section Menu” check boxes are reset to Checked.
If the parent page’s “Include in Section Menu” check box is unchecked, all children’s “Include in Section Menu” check boxes are reset to Unchecked.
Settings are only applied to the direct children of the page (children of the children are not affected).
Include new Children in Section Menu: The “Include in Section Menu” field of a child is automatically set to Checked when the child page is created. Hence the child page will be displayed on the Section Menu after creation. If the “Include new Children in Section Menu” field of the parent page is Unchecked, the “Include in Section Menu” field of a child page is also Unchecked when the child page is created. Hence that child page is not shown on the section menu.
Include in Child Page List: Check this checkbox to place a link to this page at the bottom of its parent page. Uncheck this checkbox if you do not want the child links displayed at the bottom of the parent page. Clicking Save and Apply to Children will save the same setting (checked or unchecked) to all of this page's children.
Include in Site Map: Check this checkbox if you want to include this page in the Site Map. Clicking Save and Apply to Children will save the same setting (checked or unchecked) to all of this page's children.
Page ID: This is the unique identification number assigned automatically to the page when it was created. Pages are sequentially numbered across all sites within a single ACM installation.
