The Digital Asset manager is where you organize all digital files used throughout your sites. Digital files include:
images
PDF's
text files
PowerPoint presentations
audio and video
any other type of digital media file.
Files are uploaded into the Digital Asset Library and are made available to users across one or more sites. You control who can access digital assets by controlling which groups have access to the digital asset folders.
You may wish to create a digital assets folder structure similar to the one you have created for your groups of users. If you use the same folder structure, you can isolate digital assets for specific user groups into folders with the same names. This will make managing access to digital assets easier.
For example: If you have a user group folder called Human Resources, you could also have a digital assets folder called Human Resources. You could then put all of the digital assets to be used by the Human Resources department in that one folder and the assets needed by Human Resources would be easy to identify by folder name.
Site administrators can control access to the Digital Asset Manager and digital asset uploading as follows:
If the ContentProviderDAUpload flag is set to True in the .config file, then all content providers can upload Digital Assets, regardless of whether or not they have access to the Digital Asset Manager. If the ContentProviderDAUpload flag is set to False in the .config file, then only users who are Digital Asset Managers can upload assets.
If you are going to be creating online slide shows or galleries of photographs or other images, it is recommended that you size your photos and images as desired prior to uploading them to the digital asset library. This way you will have consistently sized photos and images to add to gallery pages.
